Band and Choir perform at Joint Concert
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band and the Snowdown Colliery Welfare Male Voice Choir performed together at a joint concert on the Saturday 12th September 2009 at the Tower Theatre in Folkestone. Tickets were available for this event and others from the Theatre box-office. Telephone (01303) 223925
SCABA Spring Contest 2009
The band worked hard and played well during this years Southern Counties Amateur Band Association Contest in Brighton and attained a well earned 2nd place. Keith Pritchard, our Principal Cornet player also won the Best Instrumentalist prize. Well done Keith. The full results can be found here
New Musical Director.
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band is extremely pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin Spencer LLCM, LRSM, NABBC, has accepted the position of Musical Director. The band hopes he has a long and successful time with the band.

Conductor Bows Out
After just over 3 years of directing the Snowdown Colliery Welfare Brass band, Keith Twyman has decided to step down as Music Director of the band. During his leadership the band have grown stronger and have performed at many, many local and some not so local musical events, concerts, fetes, bandstands and contests. The band wish Keith all the very best in life and all his future endeavours.
SCABA Autumn Contest 2008
The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band took part in the Southern Counties Amateur Band Associations Autumn Contest at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone again this year and were placed THIRD in section. Well done band – Great Effort! Full results listing can be found on the SCABA website
Middle of Band Plays Musical Chairs
Today the middle sections of the band have had a re-shuffle. The following moves have now occurred: Ritchie (Principal Euph) moves to 2nd Euphonium as commitments outside the band increase. Rachel (2nd Euph) moves to 1st Euphonium. Mike (1st Trom) moves to Principal Euphonium. Dee (2nd Euph) moves to 1st Baritone Richard (1st Bari) moved to 2nd Euphonium Terry (1st Bari) moves to 2nd Baritone This means that the band now are looking for players to fill the following vacancies: Tutti Solo Cornet Trombone (Position now filled)
Band Votes for new Musical Director
Tonight the members of Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band voted for who they wanted to be the next Musical Director. The two candidates were Keith Twyman and Helen Tesh. The committee are pleased to announce the result of the voting. The new Musical Director of the Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band is Keith Twyman. Congratulations to Keith on his successful appointment. Our thanks go to Helen for putting herself forward for the position and commiserations for not getting the position.
Shirley retires after 31 Years
It was a sad day for the Dover adult services team last week as one of its longest serving members retired after 31 years. Shirley Carr, 60, from Capel-Le-Ferne stepped down from her post as care manager to spend more time with her husband Micheal. In her time with the team Mrs Carr was responsible for assessing clients” needs, including planning and providing day and respite-care and the meals-on-wheels service.Mrs Carr was presented with flowers, an engraved carriage clock and £100 to give to a charity of her choice. She said: ‘I have really enjoyed my work and will miss all my clients and colleagues.’Team leader Jenny Olpin said: ‘Shirley has been a joy to work with. Her clients and colleagues will miss her smiling face and sparkling eyes.’Mrs Carr began her career with KCC doing clerical work, and later trained as a welfare assistant.In her retirement Mrs Carr said she aims to spend more time on her hobbies, including singing with the Dover Choral Society and playing in the Snowdown Brass Band. She also hopes to spend more time time walking with the Capel ramblers.
