Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band

…this time Snowdown Colliery Band competed in the London and Southern Counties Regional contest in Stevenage. We played well, but only managed a galant 13th (out of the 20 bands in the fourth section)

The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band competed in the Southern Counties Amateur Bands Associations Autumn Contest this past weekend at the Leas Cliffe Hall, Folkestone. Drawn first and played: National Anthem (Brown, Lieut. Colonel Basil H.) Labour and Love (Percy Fletcher, ) The band were judged and attained first place and won three of the remaining five trophies on offer… 1st for the Test piece Best Conductor (Keith Twyman) Best Instrumentalist (Mike Sole – Principal Euphonium) Best back row Cornets …And to put the icing on the cake, Snowdown Colliery Welfare Band were awarded the trophy for the ‘SCABA Band of the Year 2011’.Full contest results can be found on the SCABA website

The band competed at the London and Southern Counties Regional Qualifiers this weekend and came a disappointing 11th (of 16).

The Snowdown Colliery Welfare Brass Band competed in the London and Southern Counties Regional qualifiers for the Natioanl Brass Band Championships of Great Britian this weekend. The band travelled the 105 mile trip by coach and arrived by midday and after a practice at The Thomas Allyne School made their way to the contest location, the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre. The 4th Section draw was made and Snowdown were drawn to play 15th of the 16 bands competing. After a long and nervous 5 hour wait, the band finally took to the stage and played Saint-Saens Variations (arr. Phillip Sparke). The band played well, and were awarded a 9th place.
